What is Wool?

Wool is the soft hair that grows on the bodies of sheep and some other animals. However, it differs from hair or fur as it is crimped and elastic. It is also a very absorbent fibre and ignites at a much higher temperature than other fibres such as cotton or synthetics.

What can it be used for?

Wool provides incredible insulation and protection. It regulates its temperature making it a perfect fibre for every season. The fibre is used for clothing, textiles, carpeting and as a noise and odour insulator. Consequently, it can be described as a truly dynamic fibre with qualities that are beneficial for a variety of purposes.

Why do we Choose Wool?

The Isle Mill’s interior fabrics and accessories are predominantly woven from wool. We choose wool as it is luxurious, durable, biodegradable, recyclable, renewable and safe. It is soft to touch but also strong, making it ideal for interior fabrics. In addition, the fibre is naturally high in moisture and resistant to fire. Moreover, heat and flames will not spread across its surface and it does not melt like synthetics because it produces very little static. It is a safe and natural choice for interior usage.
